Interview Summary

“Group Management Policies 2023” emphasizes on nurturing and acquiring talent capable of driving change, aiming to evolve into a sustainable high-growth company by a bold shift of management resources toward growth areas. What kind of corporate culture are you aiming for?

We aim to build a corporate culture that allows our diverse workforce to fulfill their strengths, thereby establishing our dominant position in the market, and to find meaning in working for this company.

Could you tell us about the three material issues in your human resource strategy and what you have done so far?

The three material issues are: integrating the required knowledge from external sources; providing opportunities for employees to take on new business challenges; and creating a human resource system and culture for this purpose. By reviewing the types of positions and job descriptions for mid-career hires, we have received more applications from those interested in joining our new businesses or the projects to address social issues.

Could you give us some specifics about your efforts to promote human resource diversity, such as promoting women’s advancement?

Achieving 30% female board representation by 2030 is an absolute must for us. However, we are not limiting our efforts to women alone. Instead, we are committed to creating innovation by providing opportunities for people of different nationalities, LGBTQ, and other diverse backgrounds to play an active role in the company.

How do you conduct global due diligence?

We sent questionnaires to 1,000 major suppliers and are conducting dialogue based on their responses. We also work with NGOs and NPOs to handle rare mineral resources, for example.

In 2053, three years after 2050 when IHI aims to achieve carbon neutrality, IHI will celebrate its 200th anniversary. Could you share your company’s vision for this milestone?

Our emphasis on the environment, human rights, diverse human resources, and the trust of our stakeholders should remain unchanged. The ideal is that people come together to solve social issues, and IHI is a place to do it. We also want to be a company that supports each employee’s purpose.
