InformationQUICK Partners with Toshiba Data to Launch Alternative Data Business

QUICK Corp.

QUICK Corp. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Shinzo Takami; hereinafter “QUICK”), in partnership with Toshiba Data Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Hiroaki Kitagawa; hereinafter “Toshiba Data”), started providing alternative data on December 25, 2023, which can be used for investment decisions. Specifically, QUICK analyzes purchase statistics data from Toshiba Group’s electronic receipt service ’Smart Receipt’ and provides timely analysis results to institutional investors through the data platform “QUICK Data Factory.”

This collaboration makes it possible, with the permission of ’Smart Receipt’ users, to provide purchase statistics data, such as “when, where, what, how much, and how many purchases were made,” on a daily basis in a manner that protects personal information. This will contribute to promptly grasping changes in purchasing behavior in Japan and making decisions and forecasts so as not to miss opportunities.

TOSHIBA and QUICK, realize timely investment decisions

Recently, institutional investors have been actively using alternative data for their investment decisions. Traditionally, official data released by governments and companies were generally used for investment decisions. However, such data were considered insufficient for understanding real-time fluctuations in financial markets and consumption trends. But with big data being generated daily in many different places along with recent innovations in machine learning and natural language processing, large amounts of data can now be obtained and processed quickly. As a result, there is an increasing demand for fresher data in order to understand economic activity in more real-time.
Against this backdrop, QUICK and Toshiba Data have launched to utilize the purchase statistics data from ‘Smart Receipt’ and visualize rapid changes in individual consumption behavior to support timely earnings and stock price forecasts.
QUICK and Toshiba Data aim to combine the knowledge of both companies to explore solutions for business and technological issues, and continue to work toward revealing various values that can be seen from the data.
